제28회 퇴계학 국제학술대회 발표논문 : 퇴계(退溪)의 인애관(仁愛觀)에 담긴 평화사상(平和思想) = Special Edition : Toegye`s thought of peace in philanthropism

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본고는 누구보다도 천지자연과 인간과의 관계를 존중하고 소중하게 생각한 퇴계의 교육관과 심오한 인간애를 통해 퇴계의 평화사상을 고찰한 것이다. 보다 구체적으로는 퇴계의 자연친화적 삶에 나타난 자연애와 차별 없는 인간애와 배려와 관용을 중심으로 퇴계의 仁愛觀에 담긴 평화사상을 검토하였다. 공맹 사상으로 대표되는 儒敎는 높고 훌륭한 철학적 사상으로 학문과 정치생활 전반에 많은 시사점을 주는 동양의 대표적인 정신문화이다. 그러나 공맹 사상은 신분을 구분하고 인과 예를 행하는 신분계급간의 사랑인 別愛인데 반해 퇴계는 묵자의 겸애(愛人若愛其身)와도 같은 博愛와 평등한 인간을 지향하는 人尊精神을 더욱 실천하고자 했다. 퇴계의 사상은 사람을 그 용모나 지위로 보지 않는 인간에 대한 이해와 인간 개개인의 가치를 존중하는 것에서 출발한다. 인간은 목표를 향해 나아가는 미래적이고 창조적인 존재이기 때문에 그 사람의 현재상태를 그의 전부로 볼 수 없는 것이다. 자연과 사람의 관계에 대한 새로운 정립으로 일찍이 퇴계는 과학 기술을 넘어선 자연의 모습과 調和하는 사람의 길을 추구하였다. 퇴계의 도덕적 심신수양에서 우러나온 인륜적 仁愛의 대상은 인간만이 아니라 모든 생명적 존재에 적용된다. 움돋는 것을 함부로 뜯지 않으며 세상에 살려고 나온 미물인 벌레라도 이유 없이 함부로 대하지 않은 그의 따뜻한 온정은 여종 학덕의 아이를 살렸다. 또한 출신과 신분에 차별을 두지 않고 배우고자 하는 이에게 가르침을 주었다. 사람은 누구나 똑같이 사랑해야 한다는 퇴계가 실천한 일체경지의 행동이 자칫 사사로운 감정에 이끌리기 쉬운 혈육관계를 과감히 극복하고 이루어졌다는 사실이 퇴계가 시대를 초월하여 영원한 師表인 이유이기도 하다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This report considers about Toegye’s thought of peace by Toegye’s view of edoucation and profound human love. Specifically, it studies about Toegye’s Peace of thought that is focus on love of nature, human love, solicitude, tolerance. The Confucianism is the representative of Asian moral culture which is affects to overall education and politics. But, the thought of Confucius and Mencius do benevolence and courtesy by classifying social status however, Toegye tries to do equal treatment to human. Toegye’s thought begins from understanding and respecting individual’s value without assessing their appearance and status. We cannot estimate everything about the person by current situation, because the human is futuristic and creative being that moving toward to objective. Toegye pursuits the way of human harmonizing with nature which is beyond the science and technology by establishing relationship between nature and human. Toegye’s ethical thought is not only human but also all the living things. He did not discriminate the person by origin and status and taught those who desire to learn. The Toegye’s behavior that needs to love the entire person equally made him a model man honored from the others.
