가상공간의 공동체 문화 탐색-사이월드 문화를 중심으로

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 논문은 가상곤간에 관한 미래지향적이며 기술중심적인 사고로부터 벗어나, 현실과 가상이 공존하는 일상세계에서 가상문화가 접합되는 방식을 분석한다. 탈맥락적인 기술담론을 벗어나, 이동과 정착의 모순적 질서가 공간화된 지점으로서 ‘집’과 미디어의 관계에 주목하였다. 후기산업사회의 첨단커뮤니케이션 테크놀로지의 사적 소유구조석에서 집은 그 자체가 이동성과 사사화의 상징적 공간으로 표상되어 왔다. 이에 가상공간에서 진행되고 있는 대안적인 ‘집’과 공동체 문화를 분석함으로써 그 안에서 잠재적으로 시도되고 있는 친밀성 관계의 재편성 및 공동체적인 매체수용의 특성들을 고찰하였다. 특히 사이월드 문화에 대한 분석을 통해 미디어 홈의 가상화에 따른 개인적 공간 구성방식의 변화, 자기성찰적 표현행위의 활성화, 친밀성에 근거한 의미공유체로서의 가상공동체 문화의 특징들을 읽어내었다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This article analyses a way in which real and virtual cultures are articulated within everyday life through people using media technologies across the border between them. It is criticized that from a futuristic perspective of technology, the development of new technology has been unjustly romanticized as emancipatory and transcendent, as, for example, the human subject often appears free from any materialistic, social and historical conditions in cyber space.<br/>
It is suggested in the current study that media culture has been developed deeply embedded within the contradictory situation in which the orders of mobility and settlement are intertwined. In this sense, the notion of home is drawn up for it has been regarded as a symbolic space in the realization of mobility and privatization in the contemporary mass communication society. Thus, an alternative mode of building communities is focused on in the cultural practice of cyber space. Despite its technological attributes of mobility and individualism, popular desire both for staying and belonging seems to be pervasive. The phenomenon of cyber practice of belonging reflects the social trend in which the structure of intimacy is changing. The case study of the Cyworld, a popular internet site of blogging, reveals a specific way constructing cyber communities, based on the activities of making selective human relationship, reciprocal exchanging of cultural text and sharing the locus of meaning. These virtual cultural practices reflects a virtual community culture, which is rooted in reciprocal recognition and understanding instead of claiming for any form of autonomous individuality or anonymous mass. As described in a general context of contemporary media culture, an virtual subject is neither entirely autonomous and atomic nor subject to the trend of nomadology. On the contrary, he/she. rejecting conventional norms of individualism and family and community,<br/>
desires for constructing a community as a network between meaning - sharers.<br/>
The notion of virtual community as a semantic network leads to revising the reductionist view of contemporary media culture as just mobile and individualistic. Furthermore, what is important may be to understand the implication of virtual community as-being-made in the present. That is, I would suggest, the emergence of an discursive experiment in virtual space of subject active1y constructing 'my' relationship of intimacy, which has all the way been marginalized in the dominant principle of modern public life world.
