인문지리학 패러다임의 변화에 대한 맥락적 접근의 필요성 = A Study on the Necessity of Contextual Approach for the Understanding of Paradigm Shift in Human Geography

국문 초록 (Abstract)

  인문지리학은 19세기말 독일에서 학문적 체계가 형성되기 시작한 이래 지속적인 변화를 경험하였다 . 전통적 지역연구에 대한 반대로서 등장하게 된 공간분석 연구는 지리학에서 패러다임의 유행을 가져왔다. 하지만, 공간분석 연구가들에 의해 도입된 패러다임은 개념적 인식과 적용상에서 문제점을 드러내게 되었다. 본 연구에서는 인문지라학에서 패러다임의 도입 배경과 패러다임 적용상의 문제점을 살펴보고, 다양한 패러다임이 존재하는 지리학의 현실에 비추어 패러다임이 갖는 가치를 조명해보았다. 이들 토대로 인문지리학의 변화를 이해하기 위한 맥락적 접근의 필요성을 제시하였다. 지리학은 다양한 패러다임의 공존과 패러다임 사이에서의 경쟁, 변화, 복원을 통하여 학문적으로 성숙하여 왔음을 알 수 있었다. 본 연구를 통해 인문지리학에서 패러다임의 다양성은 인문지리학 정체성의 위기에 해당하기보다는 인문지리학의 정체성을 새롭게 하는 토대가 됨을 알 수 있었다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

  Human Geography has experienced continual changes since the burgeoning of academic structure of geography in Germany in the late 19th century. The emergence of spatial analysis which appealed the enervation of traditional regional geography brought about the paradigm fever in human geography. However, paradigm suggested by spatial scientists disclosed lacks in the use of its perception and application. The research attempted to reveal the background of paradigm introduction and the problem of its application. Also, this study illuminated the value of paradigm focusing on the variety of paradigms in hmnan geography. This research suggests the necessity for the use of contextual approach for the understanding of paradigm shifts in human geography. This research shows that human geography has been academically matured with the co-existence of paradigms which compete, change, and restore by each others. This research clearly shows that the variety of paradigm do not mean the threat of human geographical identity, instead it makes the basis of strong identity for human geography.
