Ethanol extract of roots, stems, leaves and seeds of 49 species of plants were examined their growth inhibition by disk method on 5 strains of Listeria monocytogenes ATCC 19111, ATCC 19112, ATCC 19113, ATCC 19114 and ATCCI 15313. The ethanol extract of Dryopteris crassirhizoma Nakai(Dc) exhibited comparatively strong growth inhibition was compared their activity with broth culture containing different concentration of the extract on 5 strains of L.monocytogenes. Dc ethanol extract, 500 ppm level, almost inhibited the growth of all strains tested. The Dc ethanol extract was fractionated into chloroform fraction, ethyl aetate fraction and butanol fraction. Among those fractions, chloroform fractionate, 50~100 ppm level, showed strong antimicrobial effect on 5 strains tested.
