신약성서 연구에 있어서 사회 정체성 이론의 적용과 기여 = Social Identity Theory in New Testament Studies: Applications and Contributions

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 논문은 신약성서 연구에 대한 새로운 해석 방법으로서 사회 심리학적 전망 가운데 널리 활용되고 있는 사회 정체성 이론에 대해 소개하며, 그와 관련된 주요 연구물들을 조사하고 있다. 기존의 심리학적 해석과 비교해 볼 때 사회 심리학은 인간의 내적 변화를 파악하는 데에 개인을 둘러싼 집단 간의 역학 관계에 보다 많은 관심을 갖는다. 특히 한 개인 내면의 정신 세계를 넘어 ‘사회적 영향력’이라는 포괄적인 개념 속에서 이를 규명하고자 노력해왔다. 이를 통해 필연적으로 태어나면서부터 사회적 존재로서 살아가게 되는 인간이 ‘집단’이라는 주변적 상황으로부터 영향을 받게 되면서 얼마나 쉽게 자신의 생각과 신념에 모순되는 행동을 보여주게 되는지 또한 그와 같은 일련의 행위 변화가 어떠한 과정 속에서 발생하게 되는지에 대한 과학적인 설명을 제시한다. 본래 영국의 사회 심리학자인 타즈펠과 터너에 의해 개발 및 발전되어 온 사회 정체성 이론은 다수의 후속 작업을 통하여 개인의 개별적인 행위와 집단 속에 위치한 개인의 선택이 과연 어떻게 달라질 수 있는지에 대한 심층적인 연구를 거듭해왔다. 이러한 행위 과정에 주목하는 실증적인 고찰을 통하여 집단 내부와 집단 간의 상충된 이해관계(갈등, 대립, 극화, 차별 등)들을 설명하는 데에 새로운 통찰력을 보여준다. 이에 이 논문은 다음과 같은 구체적인 작업을 시도하고 있다. 첫째, 성서 해석에 관한 이전의 심리학적 분석과 비교하여 사회 심리학에 대해 개괄적으로 소개한다. 둘째, 사회 정체성 접근(사회 정체성 이론과 자기 범주화 이론)의 이론적인 측면들을 순서대로 상술한다. 마지막으로, 신약성서 연구에 관한 사회 정체성 이론의 적용 및 전망에 대해 논한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This article tries to introduce the social identity theories which have been widely employed in methodologies of social psychology as a fresh interpretation in New Testament studies and to examine their major relevant researches and academic tendencies. Comparing to other previous psychological interpretations, the social psychology pays more attention to the dynamics of intergroup relations on individuals in comprehending internal changes of human beings. In particular, it has attempted to investigate them in a comprehensive sphere of ‘social influence’ beyond the internal psychological world of the person. By so doing, it elucidates how human beings as social beings in nature can necessarily be affected by their surroundings of ‘groups’ and can be contradictory to their own thoughts and behaviors, thereby suggesting a scientific explanation on what kinds of processes bring about a series of behavioral changes. Initially, social identity theories which have been formed and developed by British social psychologists Henri Tajfel and John C. Turner make constant attempts at deep researches with many subsequent studies concerning how individual behaviors and individual choices in intergroup can be changeable. They provide intriguing insights for explaining the contradictory interests (e.g. conflicts, opposition, polarization, discrimination) of in-group and intergroup using empirical considerations which take behavioral processes into account. Therefore, this paper emphasizes three points. Firstly, it offers a comprehensive introduction to social psychology in comparison with previous psychological analyses of biblical interpretations. Secondly, the theoretical aspects of social identity approaches such as social identity theory and selfcategorization theory are elaborated. Lastly, it deals with how the social identity theories can contribute to New Testament studies.
