This study analyzed major US indians collective struggles during the 1960s and 1970s from the "Settlers Colonialism" view point. The struggles between indians and the US Government mean the struggles between imperial countries and colonies, between the ruling classes and the ruled classes, between the white and the colored peoples. In the form the twentieth century policies were much different from those of the nineteenth, but in the content they were very similar. The main purpose of the policies continued to be the destruction of the indian lives and identities by controling and plundering their natural resources.
On the other hand, indians continued to struggle against the government policies. Particularly during the 1960s and 1970s when social movements against the Vietnam war and for human rights were very active, indians made major collective actions. This study researched the trends of indian social movement in the 1960s, the background of the organization of the American Indian Movement, the occupation of Alkatraz island, the occupation of Bureau of Indian Affairs building in Washington D.C., the armed confrontation in Wounded Knee. Indians struggles for survivals continued until today against the white's exploitation of indians land and natural resources. The effects of collective actions made by indians as one of the minority groups in the United States were limited with the government's oppression and without social movements against the Vietnam war and for human rights after 1970s.
