The purpose of this study is to find and analyze how much and which effect both mothers’bringing up stress who have from 3 to 5 years old infants and the father’s participation in bringing up as long as mothers recognize have on the mother’s bringing up attitude
There are four questions which have to be answered in order to deal with this subject and they are as follow;
Firstly, whether or not there is any difference in mother’s bringing up stress in accordance with mother’s general characters such as age, education and job.
Secondly, whether or not there is any difference in father’s bringing up participation in accordance with father’s general characters such as age, education, job and salary.
Thirdly, what kind of relationship is there between fathers’ bringing up participation and mothers’ bringing up stress?
Fourthly, whether or not there is any difference in influence of fathers’ bringing up participation on mothers’ bringing up attitude in accordance with mothers’ bringing up stress as long as there is any difference in mothers’ bringing up stress according to mothers’ general characters.
A survey was conducted in order to answer the four questions in kindergartens and nurseries in Daegu, in total 8 institutes, and 400 mothers took part in this survey, who have from 3 to 5 years old infants.
In terms of methods Parenting Stress Scale written by Insuk Jang(2001) was used for analyzing mothers’ bringing up stress, the measure developed by Kyung-soon Choi(1992) was used especially for measuring fathers’ bringing up participation and criterion nurture parental attitude used by Jong-seung LeeㆍSungsim Ohh(1982) was a useful tool to estimate mothers’bringing up attitude.
All collected date were analyzed statistically by SPSS and MANOVA (Multivariate Analysis of Variance) was applied in order to reveal both the difference in mothers’ bringing up stress in accordance with mothers’ general characters and that in fathers’ bringing up participation in accordance with fathers’ general characters. In addition schfee post-hoc analysis was conducted for the purpose of checking among groups and Pearson Correlational Analysis was one of the most appropriate measurements to investigate the relationship between fathers’ bringing up participation and mothers’ bringing up stress. Finally, frequency and percentage were the ways of showing the result calculated and Cronbach α figure was a good method for reliability of measure.
The main result of this study was as follow;
Firstly, there was no difference found in mothers’ bringing up stress in accordance with mothers’ general characters even in any case.
Secondly, among fathers’ characters there was no difference found in fathers’ bringing up participation in fathers’ ages, but it was revealed that there were considerable differencein accordance with their education, job and salary. Namely the more they learned, the more they earned and the higher they get to in their job, they were much freer to participate in leisure with their family, housework, guidance counselor, recognizable achievement guide and so on.
Thirdly, there found remarkable inverse proportion in relation between fathers’ bringing up participation and mothers’ bringing up stress. The result of the survey showed certainly that the more fathers participate in leisure activity and housework with their families, the more mothers’ bringing up stress and burden with parental role decreed.
Fourthly, the result showed no answer about the question whether or not there is any difference in influence of fathers’ bringing up participation on mothers’ bringing up attitude in accordance with mothers’ bringing up stress because mothers’ bringing up stress was similar in any case in accordance with mothers’ general characters even.
In the end it is concluded that fathers’ bringing up participation has direct and positive influences on mothers’ bringing up attitude in any situation. There found no difference in mothers’ bringing up stress regardless of their age, education, job and so on, while fathers’ general characters affected on their bringing up participation concretely. In other words, the more stable fathers’ situations are, the more they participate in bringing up and it result in not only decrease of mothers’ bringing up stress but also making mothers’ bringing up attitude much more positive, affective, voluntary and rational.
This study was dealt with only focused on Daegu, so the further study had better treat this subject much more in detail. It is considered that it will be helpful to divide into some categories according to their particularity such as city and town, high and low in salary. Furthermore, as the multi-cultural families spread in our society, it is regarded as valuable to approach these families according to their cultural background as well.
