효과적인 성인지도를 위한 실천적 전략―대학부설 평생교육원 성인학습자의 관점에서― = Practical Strategies for Teaching Adults: What Works and What Does Not Work

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 논문에서 필자는 효과적인 성인지도에 필요한 실천적 전략을 구안할 목적으로 수행된 탐색적 연구를 소개한다. 성인지도의 효과성에 대한 학습자의 인지 정도를 드러내기 위하여 교수 활동 시 성인 교수자가 실천해야 할 사항 (67문항)과 삼가야 할 사항 (47문항)에 관한 문항이 개발되었고, 각각의 문항은 성인학습자에 의해 그 중요도가 5점 척도로 평가되었다. 설문조사에 참여한 성인학습자는 서울 경기 소재 3 대학의 평생 (사회) 교육원에서 수강 중인 355명의 수강생이었다. 내용분석의 결과 개발된 문항들은 교수자 -학습자 관계, 교수자의 자질, 교수 -학습방법, 교수 -학습 분위기의 네 주제를 가리키는 것으로 파악되었다 가장 많은 문항수를 차지한 교수 -학습방법 주제에 속한 문항들을 요인 분석한 결과 실천사항과 금기사항에 대해 각 각 4개의 요인을 추출할 수 있었다. 본 연구의 결과는 대학부설평생교육원에서 효과적인 성인 지도가 이루어지기 위해서는 성인으로서 존중 받고, 학생으로서 관심 받고, 고객으로서 대우 받기를 원하는 학습자들의 요구를 교수자가 이해하고 그 바탕 밖에 지도가 이루어질 때 가능함을 시사한다. 특히 성인존중의 원리는 학습자의 문화적, 인지적, 환경적 요인과 함께 이해되어야 함을 논의하였다. 논문의 말미에 연구의 의의와 제한점, 후속 연구 주제들이 제시된다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper is about a research study conducted to come up with practical strategies for teaching adults in the context of Lifelong Education Center affiliated with University(LECU). A survey questionnaire was designed to assess the effectiveness of the strategies addressed in 114 items: 67 sentences concerning what works and 47 addressing what does not work for teaching adults. The survey was administerd at three LECUs located in Seoul and Kyunggido; 355 adult learners completed the questionnaire, indicating the level of importance of each item to their learning. The data were analyzed in two ways: content analysis and statistical analysis. The content analysis revealed four emerging subjects with regard to effective strategies for teaching adults: instructor-learner relationship, instructor qualifications, teaching-learning method, and teaching-learning atmosphere. The statistical analysis helped to weigh the relative importance of each item grouped to the four subjects. A complete lists of what works and what does not work for teaching adults are presented in the paper in accordance with the four subjects. In addition, a factor analysis was carried out to explore underlying dimensions of the subject of teaching-learning method, generating four factors for dos and don'ts, respectively. To swn up, this study suggests that respecting learners as adults, caring adults as students, treating adults as customers be the keys to the success of teaching and learning in the setting of LECU, and possibly in the domain of adult learning in general.
