Beginning with the study of the development of the awareness of young children and the beliefs as to learning, recently the study applies the beliefs of the social psychological models and methodology and deals with the beliefs of the social behaviors of young children. However, in our country, they still pay almost no attention to the beliefs of parents as to the concrete problem behaviors of young children.
Thus, this study has made a comparative analysis of the systems of the beliefs of parents and the systems of the beliefs of teachers as to the aggressive behaviors and the social shrunken behaviors of young children as the frequent problem behaviors occurring in the educational institutions of young children.
For this purpose of the study, attribution, emotional responses, and social strategies were studied on the basis of the systems of the beliefs as presented mainly by the outcomes of the analysis.
The investigation of the differences between the systems of beliefs of the aggressive behaviors of young children, has shown that, in terms of mothers, the aggressive behaviors were most attributed to the external factors and the shrunken behaviors were most attributed to dispositions, and, in terms of teachers, aggressive behaviors were most attributed to external factors and shrunken behaviors were most attributed to temporary states.
The investigation of the differences in the attribution between mothers and teachers as regards the sexes of young children, has shown that, in the aggressive behaviors, significant differences were found only in the attribution of teachers, and teachers attributed the aggressive behaviors of male young children, rather than female young children, to dispositions or the acquired habits. In the attribution of shrunken behaviors, there were no differences related to the sexes between mothers and teachers. In mothers, no differences were found in the attribution of the problem behaviors of young children related to sexes, and, only in terms of teachers, aggressive behaviors were attributed to the factors of stability and disposition.
The investigation of the differences in the attribution of aggressive and shrunken behaviors in terms of the age of young children through MANOVA, has shown that mothers attributed the aggressive behaviors of the young children of three more to the younger age, and, in terms of shrunken behaviors, they attributed those of the young children of three more to the acquired habits and attributed those of the young children of five more to dispositions, while teachers attributed the: aggressive behaviors of the young children of three more to the inborn dispositions and attributed those of the young children of four more to the acquired habits or the younger age. And in terms of shrunken behaviors, they attributed those of the young children of four to dispositions, acquired habits or the age, but attributed those of the young children of three to external factors. Mothers attributed the problem behaviors of the young children of five, rather than the young children of three, to dispositions. It is because they consider the negative behaviors of their elder children to be more intentional and dispositional compared with the younger children.
The investigation of the emotional responses of mothers and teachers related to the types of the problem behaviors of young children, has shown that mothers were more perplexed, angry, surprised and confused, and felt a guilty conscience. In terms of shrunken behaviors, they were found to feel more anxiety and disappointment. Besides, teachers, too, showed mostly stronger emotional responses to aggressive behaviors of young children than to their shrunken behaviors and particularly the aggressive behaviors of young children made them more angry and perplexed. And they showed more anxiety to shrunken behaviors than to aggressive behaviors.
The investigation of the differences related to sexes in the emotional responses to the problem behaviors of young children, has shown no differences except that teachers were a little more per flexed about the aggressive behaviors of the female young children.
The investigation of differences of age in the emotional responses of mothers and teachers to the aggressive and shrunk behaviors of young children, has shown that, only in the case of teachers, differences in emotional responses were found according to their age. That is, teachers showed more anger and anxiety to the aggressive behaviors of the young children of three but showed little surprise. They showed the most response of confusion to the young children of five and the most response of a guilty conscience to the young children of four. In addition, also in terms of shrunken behaviors, they showed the most anger to the young children of three, but they showed perplexity to the young children of five, and the responses of surprise and a guilty conscience to the young children of four. The emotional responses of mothers showed no differences related to their age.
The investigation of the differences in the social strategies used according to the sexes of the young children, has shown that only the teachers used many strategies of force to the aggressive behaviors of male young children rather than to the female young children and no significant differences were found in the social strategies or in the strategies about the shrunken behaviors of young children. The earlier study of attribution showed that teachers attributed the aggressive behaviors of others more to dispositions or acquired habits, so, though mothers were the subjects of the study, they were more punitive and used more powerful strategies of force when the problem behaviors of their children were attributed to dispositional and intentional factors.
The differences in the social strategies by the age of young children are as follows: Mothers used constructive and supportive strategies most in terns of the aggressive behaviors of the young children of three, and in shrunken behaviors, they used more their influence, psychological control, and constructive and supportive strategies. Besides, teachers used their influence, psychological control, and constructive and supportive strategies most for the aggressive behaviors of the young children of three and showed nonresponse least. And in the shrunken behaviors of the young children of three, they used constructive and supportive strategies most, and, in shrunken behaviors, they used the strategies of influence and the outside-oriented strategies to the young children of four and nonresponse to the infants of five.
