Emotion regulation refers to the processes of deciding which emotions to have, when to have them, and how to experience them. This study developed an experimental paradigm in which emotion regulation abilities can be objectively measured using psychophyioslogical indices. Using this paradigm, individuals with emotion dysregulation (e.g., anxiety, depression, alcohol-dependence) were examined of their regulation abilities. In addition, interventions that affect emotion regulation (e.g., re-appraising situations, mindfulness) were reviewed and examined of their effectiveness. This series of studies contribute to better understand the mechanism of emotion regulation and offer clinical implications for intervention.
