    2D animation maintains marketability and cultural value even in the present era when 3D technology is mainstream, but it shows limitations due to excessive production volume and lack of specialized personnel. Generative AI is attracting attention as an alternative to solve these problems. This study analyzed the possibilities and limitations of text-based and video-based approaches in animation motion design using generative AI. Focusing on the relationship between emotional expression and motion design, the study first reviewed generative AI and existing motion research, secondly designed character motion images based on emotions of joy, anger, sorrow, and pleasure, and thirdly evaluated videos produced using text-based and video-based approaches according to 12 animation principles. During the research, it was observed that the text-based approach had limitations in simplicity and strong and weak expression, and the video-based approach lacked depth in emotional transmission despite improved motion continuity. Generative AI showed the potential to increase the efficiency of motion implementation, but it needs to supplement emotional narrative and motion exaggeration.
