번역 희곡에 대한 연구 : 1920~39년을 중심으로 = A Study on Foreign Plays Translated into Korean

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 硏究는 1920年 부터 1939年까지 外國戱曲이 韓國에 소개된 作品들을 조사하여 各年代別로 分類를 하여 이 分野의 學問을 하는 사람에게 도움이 되기를 바랍니다ㅣ.
當代 韓國번역문학이 크게 活動的이 못되리가 생각했던바 놀랄만한 일은 220여편의 많은 作品이 飜譯되어 소개되었다는 사실입니다. 또한 이 당대의 飜譯文學이 韓國文學 發展에 한 영양분과 같은 역할을 하였다는 사실도 알게 됩니다. 當代 飜譯戱曲은 주고 소련, 불란서, 독일, 영국 作品이 많이 飜譯되었고 이 戱曲飜譯에 많은 공헌을 한 분들은 일제히 일본 유학을 한 분들이 주로 추죽을 이루었읍니다. 當代의 번역희곡을 發表할 수 있는 많은 잡지도 한국 개화기 문학 발전의 밑바탕 역할을 하였음을 알 수 있읍니다.
이 論文에서는 당대 번역희곡이 편수를 조사 分類를 해보려고 했읍니다. 그래서 자료를 수집한 후 各 年代別로 자료 출처별로, 공연된 작품별로, 영·쏘·불 ·독 각 國家의 作品별로 分類를 하려고 했읍니다. 이 자료 수집 분류는 번역희곡을 참고로 하려는 분에게는 퍽 도움이 될것입니다. 또한 당대 희곡번역 과정의 문제점으로 많은 작품이 日譯을 우리말로 飜譯한 重譯들인데 이가운데 몇 작품을 예로들어 중역임을 증명하려 하였읍니다. 그러나 日語로 번역된 日語자료수집에 많은 문제점이 있었음은 퍽 유감스러운 일이었읍니다.
이 硏究된 年度의 번역희곡의 조사분류가 상세히 이루어진 것이었으므로 이 當代의 飜譯戱曲의 자료수집 및 分類해서 硏究하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This thesis is an attempt to classify foreign plays translated into Korean, which was collected by each year for twenty years from 1920 to 1939. It is indeed an encourageous and helpful undertaking to us for the study that as many as 220 works were translated into Korean at the time when the ability fo foreign languages were considered as not proficiency to the Koreans.
Particularly it gave me much surprise to fine a lot of Russian plays translated and it also gave me much delight to some Chinese plays translated which was thought no one found yet up to today.
All the translated works of those day could be arranged by the years, by the surces, by the performances, and by the nations. It is also recongnized that the literature of the Enlightment period of Korea was chiefly based on translated foreign works while formulating this thesis.
As far as the writer of this paper knows, it was greatly helpful in translating foreign plays that the foreign languages school was established, where foreign languages curriculum such as English, German, French, Chinese, Japanese, etc, were taught. And it must also be remembered that the Bible was translated into pure Korean for the first time, in the so-called Enlightment period, which was greatly contributed to the development of the Korean alphabet system.
At that time the plays of the foreign world introduced to Korea were translated into Korean out of Japanese, that is, throught the retranslation. As found out from the exemple of content of this paper, Hamlet was retranslated from Japanese. I this paper, great attention was paid to collect various kinds of materials and to classify them by the nations, by the years, by the source, by the performances, and much examples of retranslation were given for references.
In conclusion the writer takes great pride in verifying as many materials as possible and in classifying all the foreign plays translated for twenty years in the past.
