본 연구는 백화점 화장품 브랜드와 로드샵 화장품 브랜드의 콜라보레이션 유형을 분석하는 데 연구의 목적이 있으며, 콜라보레이션 마케팅 전략의 확대 및 새로운 아이디어 창출에 필요한 근거 자료로 활용되는 데 연구의 의의가 있다.
연구의 내용 및 방법으로 이론적 연구에서는 콜라보레이션의 개념 및 유형, 화장품 브랜드에 적용된 콜라보레이션에 관한 단행본과 선행연구를 중심으로 문헌고찰이 이루어졌으며, 실증적 연구에서는 선행연구를 바탕으로 콜라보레이션을 브랜드와의 콜라보레이션, 아티스트와의 콜라보레이션, 캐릭터와의 콜라보레이션 세 가지 유형으로 도출하고 2010년부터 2019년까지 콜라보레이션을 진행한 백화점 화장품 브랜드 5개(84회)와 로드샵 화장품 브랜드 5개(67회) 총 10개의 화장품 브랜드 사례(151회)의 유형을 비교 분석하였다.
연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 브랜드와의 콜라보레이션 유형을 살펴보면 백화점 화장품 브랜드의 경우 맥 8%, 슈에무라 29%, 키엘 0%, 랑콤 33%, 헤라 56%로 나타났으며, 로드샵 화장품 브랜드의 경우 이니스프리 31%, 더페이스샵 13%, 에뛰드하우스 33%, 미샤 10%, 어퓨 30%로 나타났다. 인지도가 높은 브랜드를 대상으로 스테디셀러 제품과 색조 제품을 중심으로 콜라보레이션을 진행하였으며 시각적 감성이 중요시되는 화장품 패키지 디자인에 있어서 다른 유형들에 비해서 다양한 협업이 이루어지지 않았음을 알 수 있었다.
둘째, 아티스트와의 콜라보레이션 유형을 살펴보면 백화점 화장품 브랜드의 경우 맥 70%, 슈에무라 59%, 키엘 92%, 랑콤 67%, 헤라 44%로 나타났으며, 로드샵 화장품 브랜드의 경우 이니스프리 19%, 더페이스샵 19%, 에뛰드하우스 7%, 미샤 40%, 어퓨 10%로 나타났다. 백화점 화장품 브랜드는 다양한 개성을 지닌 아티스트와의 협업을 가장 많이 진행하면서 화장품 브랜드 내 스테디셀러 제품의 패키지 디자인으로 제품의 희소성과 가치를 더해준 것으로 분석되었다.
셋째, 캐릭터와의 콜라보레이션을 살펴보면 백화점 화장품 브랜드의 경우 맥 22%, 슈에무라 12%, 키엘 8%, 랑콤 0%, 헤라 0%로 제한적인 범위 내에서 협업이 진행되었다. 로드샵 화장품 브랜드의 경우 이니스프리 50%, 더페이스샵 68%, 에뛰드하우스 60%, 미샤 50%, 어퓨 60%로 나타났다. 로드샵 화장품 브랜드는 만화, 애니메이션 캐릭터뿐만 아니라 이모티콘 캐릭터까지 다양한 종류의 캐릭터를 차용해 포괄적으로 어필하여 캐릭터와의 협업이 가장 활발하게 진행되었음을 알 수 있었다.
전체적으로 백화점 화장품 브랜드는 아티스트와 콜라보레이션 유형 비율이 67%로 가장 높았으며, 브랜드와 콜라보레이션이 19%, 캐릭터와 콜라보레이션 유형이 14%로 나타났다. 로드샵 화장품 브랜드의 경우 캐릭터와 콜라보레이션 유형 비율이 58%로 가장 높았으며, 브랜드와 콜라보레이션이 24%, 아티스트와 콜라보레이션 유형이 18% 진행된 결과가 나타났다.
상기 내용을 통하여 대표적인 화장품 유통 경로인 백화점과 로드샵의 콜라보레이션 진행 시에는 브랜드의 이미지와 효과적인 이윤을 창조하기 위해 소비자의 감성을 자극하고 차별화된 콜라보레이션 마케팅을 도구르 삼는다는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 또한 콜라보레이션 대상 선정 시 트렌드의 반영뿐만 아니라 주 고객층에 미치는 영향을 고려하여 백화점 화장품 브랜드의 콜라보레이션은 인지도가 높은 스테디셀러 제품을 중심으로 유명한 아티스트의 작품의 모티브나 패턴, 일러스트가 패키지 디자인에 적용하였고 로드샵 화장품 브랜드는 낮은 가격의 상품들로 사회 초년생을 겨냥하여 진행되었음을 알 수 있었다. 화장품 브랜드에서는 새로운 협력을 통해 홍보뿐만 아니라 콜라보레이션 자체로 소비자들의 관심과 자연스러운 프로모션 효과를 발휘하고 있다. 변화하고 있는 트렌드에 맞춰 콜라보레이션의 새로운 유형 확장으로 차별성 있는 콜라보레이션을 통해 화장품 마케팅 시장이 더욱 확대될 것으로 사료된다.

This study attempted to analyze types of collaboration (department store/ cosmetic brand, multi-brand store/cosmetic brand). It is meaningful in that the study results would serve as basic data for the expansion of collaboration marketing strategies and new ideation.
In terms of the research details and methods, there was a literature review was conducted focusing on books and previous studies on collaboration applied to the concept and type of collaboration with cosmetic brands. Concerning empirical research, three aspects were derived based on previous studies: brand collaboration, artist collaboration, and character collaboration and were therefore considered. Specifically, a total of 151 cosmetic brand cases in 10 cosmetic brands (5 department store cosmetic brands: 84 cases, 5 multi-brand store cosmetic brands: 67 cases) were comparatively analyzed, and the results found the followings:
First, in the department store cosmetic brands, ‘HERA’ was viewed as the highest with 56%, followed by ‘LANCOME (33%)’, ‘SHU UEMURA (29%)’, ‘MAC (6%)’ and ‘Kiehl’s (0%)’ in terms of brand collaboration. In the multi-brand store cosmetic brands, ‘Etude House (33%)’ was the greatest, followed by ‘Innisfree (31%)’, ‘A’pieu (30%)’, ‘THE FACE SHOP (13%)’ and ‘MISSHA (10%)’. Collaboration was performed against popular brands, focusing on steady-selling products and color items. Compared to other types, there wasn’t diverse collaboration in area of cosmetic package design in which visual sensitivity is emphasized.
Second, in terms of artist collaboration, ‘Kiehl’s (92%)’ was the highest, followed by ‘MAC (69%)’, ‘LANCOME (67%)’, ‘SHU UEMURA (59%)’ and ‘HERA (44%)’ in the department store cosmetic brands while ‘MISSHA (40%)’ was the greatest, followed by ‘THE FACE SHOP (19%)’, ‘Innisfree (19%)’, ‘A’pieu (10%)’ and ‘Etude House (7%)’ in the multi-brand store cosmetic brands. In department store cosmetic brands, there have been a lot of collaborations with artists with diverse personalities, adding values to their products with steady-selling product package design.
Third, concerning character collaboration, ‘MAC’ was the highest with 25%, followed by ‘SHU UEMURA (12%)’, ‘Kiehl’s (8%)’, ‘LANCOME (0%)’ and ‘HERA (0%)’ among the department store cosmetic brands while ‘THE FACE SHOP (68%)’ was the greatest, followed by ‘Etude House (60%)’, ‘A’pieu (60%)’, ‘MISSHA (50%)’ and ‘Innisfree (50%)’ in multi-brand store cosmetic brands. In fact, multi-brand store cosmetic brands adopted diverse types of characters including emoticons as well as comic and animation characters, revealing the most active collaboration with characters.
Overall, artist collaboration was the highest with 68%, followed by brand collaboration (18%) and character collaboration (14%) in the department store cosmetic brands while character collaboration was the greatest with 59%, followed by brand collaboration (22%) and artist collaboration (19%) in the multi-brand store cosmetic brands.
The above results confirmed that to create brand images and generate effective profits, consumer sentiment is stimulated, and differentiated collaboration marketing is used as a tool in department stores and multi-brand stores. In addition, in collaboration with the department store cosmetic brands, the motives, patterns, and illustrations of famous artists’ works were applied to package design, focusing on popular steady-selling products, reflecting trends, and considering the influence on their primary customers when selecting targets for collaboration. In multi-brand store cosmetic brands, low-price items were targeted for social novices. In cosmetic brands, new collaborations have drawn attention from consumers and generated promotional effects spontaneously. It is anticipated that cosmetic marketing market would be further expanded through differentiated collaborations thanks to their expansion into new types according to trends.
