한글성서 「예수셩교 요안복음젼서」 발굴본(1882-1883년)에 관한 서지적 연구 = A Bibliographic Study on the Newly Discovered Korean Translation(1882-1883) of Yesuseongkyo Yoannaebokeumjeonseo

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this paper is to conduct a bibliographic study on the newly discovered Korean translation of the Bible Yesuseongkyo Yoannaebokeumjeonseo by reviewing in order the life of missionary John Ross, his translationandpublication of Korean Bible, the distribution of Yesuseongkyo Yoannaebokeumjeonseo, the bibliographic characteristics of both Yesuseongkyo Yoannaebokeumjeonseo and its Korean translation, the comparison between the recently found Yesuseongkyo Yoannaebokeumjeonseo(1882-1883) and its 1883 version, and the value of Yesuseongkyo Yoannaebokeumjeonseo.
The newly discovered Yesuseongkyo Yoannaebokeumjeonseo is the first ever found Bible translated into Korean. In fact, the cover is imprinted with a publication record of Mungwangseowon located in ShenYang(瀋陽) and date of 1882. However, the exact period seems to be slightly prior to 1883 due to a number of evidential contents including the word ‘Haneunim(하느님)’ changed to ‘Hananim(하나님)’, the vowel sign /․/ more frequently used than in the 1883 version, and the word ‘Sungsin(성신)’ used instead of ‘Sunryeong(성령)’. Hence, the publication date can be estimated to be between 1882 and 1883.
Moreover, on the front cover Yesuseongkyo Yoannaebokeumjeonseo is printed and on the back cover printed is Gandokyochwi which shows that it was initially bound as Gandokyochwi when brought into the country and was re-bound as Yesuseongkyo Yoannaebokeumjeonseo afterwards. The book itself documents the historical hardship and grief that the gospel suffered in the early days.
The main text of this book totals 39 pages, and 「Gangmyeongpyeon」 on page 40 explains words. The cover is yellow in color with a publication record of Mungwangseowon located in ShenYang(瀋陽), 1882. The wooden types for printing this book are smaller than 0.5cm in both width and length, and their sizes are not consistent. In fact, it was recorded to be printed with lead metal types cast in Yokohama, but the test result shows that they were not lead types, but actually wooden types.
It is expected that the results of this study will be applied to the fields of history of Christian literatures and Hangul literatures as well as bibliography.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 글은 한글성서 「예수셩교 요안복음젼서」 발굴본(1882-1883년)에 관한 서지적 연구를 진행하기 위해 로스 목사의 생애와 한글성서의 번역․간행, 「예수셩교 요안복음젼서」의 보급과 유통, 「예수셩교 요안복음젼서」의 서지적 특징, 「예수셩교 요안복음젼서」의 번역본의 특징, 「예수셩교 요안복음젼서」의 발굴본(1882-1883년)과 1883년본의 비교, 「예수셩교 요안복음젼서」의 가치의 순으로 살펴보았다.
「예수셩교 요안복음젼서」 발굴본은 국내에서 발견된 최초의 번역 한글성서이다. 이 책은 표지에 심양 문광서원에서 1882년에 간행되었다는 간기를 지니고 있다. 하지만 내용 중에 ‘하느님’의 용어가 ‘하나님’으로 바뀌어 있고, 1883년본과 비교한 결과 모음 /․/ 표기의 사용이 많고, ‘성령’대신 ‘성신’의 용어가 그대로 사용되고 있어서 1883년보다 시기가 조금 앞선 것임을 알 수 있으며 이 책의 간행시기는 1882년부터 1883년 사이로 추정할 수 있다. 또한 앞면은 「예수셩교 요안복음젼서」가 인쇄되어 있고, 뒷면은 「간독요취(簡牘要聚)」를 필사한 것인데 국내에 들여올 때는 「간독요취(簡牘要聚)」가 필사된 부분으로 장정하였다가 국내에 들어온 이후에 「예수셩교 요안복음젼서」로 재 장정을 한 것으로 여겨진다. 이 책 자체가 초기 복음의 고되고 슬픈 역사를 그대로 말해주는 증거물이 된다. 이 책은 본문은 모두 39쪽이며, 40쪽은 「강명편」으로 단어를 해설하고 있다. 책표지는 황색이며 1882년에 심양 문광서원에서 간행한 것으로 되어 있다. 이 책의 간행에 사용된 목활자는 세로×가로 0.5cm 이하의 작은 글자들이며, 각 활자의 크기가 일정하지 않다. 기록에는 요코하마에서 주조된 음절별 한글연활자로 인출한 것으로 되어 있지만 실험결과 연활자가 아니고 목활자임을 밝혔다.
이 연구의 결과는 서지학 분야는 물론이고 기독교문헌사와 한글문헌의 연구 분야에 가장 기본적인 연구 성과로 활용될 것이다.
