At the end of the eighteenth century the overall trends in art tended to emphasize the technical and intellectual elements of classical dance. The essence of dancing form had been considered to be classical ballet. By the end of the nineteenth century, these classical forms were being discarded. The beauty of the dance began to evolve into a formalistic and professional set of expressions. These forms were generally of less public appeal then those which had gone before. In as effort to escape form the public dissatisfaction generated by these new forms, a style of dance developed which attempted to express motion using every part of dancer's body, this new development eventually grew into what we now call modern dance.
Since this modern style of dance was introduced here in Korea, many energetic and vivacious dance programs have been presented. The aim of this paper is to review and investigate the originality of thought first displayed by one of the founders of modern dance, Isadora Duncan, in order to show the correct spirit and techique of these new forms of dance.
