Chorination of methane was studied in a 5.08㎝-diameter thermal fluidized bed with silica gel particles in the range of 80∼100 mesh. The data are expressed in the form of second order irreversible rate equation. The rate constant were determined by plug flow model and experimental data, and plug flow model yielded product distribution in a good agreement with experimental results within the range of experimental conditions. The effect of temperature(330∼420℃), feed mole ratio(0.5∼4 Cl₂/CH₄), and reaction time(5∼30 sec) on conversion and product distribution were experimentally investigated to determine the optimum reaction conditions for each chlorinated methane. The optimum reaction temperature was found to be in the range of 390∼420℃ for all chlorinated methanes.
