외국인 유학생 전담학과 필요성과 기대효과에 관한 인식 분석 연구 : 4년제 대학교를 중심으로 = The Analysis on The Perception of University Field for The Necessity and Expected Effect of The Department for Foreign Students in Korean University

국문 초록 (Abstract)

대학의 외국인 유학생 유치 성과는 대학의 국제경쟁력을 가늠할 수 있는 척도이며, 외국인 유학생 수의 증가는 국내의 학령인구 감소에 대비하여 학생 자원을 확보하기 위한 주요한 전략 중 하나이다. 이와 같은 외국인 유학생 유치 확대가 가지는 의미를 고려하여 이 연구에서는 대학의 외국인 유학생 유치 확대를 위한 방안으로 제안되고 있는 외국인 유학생 전담학과의 설치에 대한 대학 현장의 인식 중 필요성과 기대효과에 대하여 분석하였다. 한국의 대학들은 외국인 유학생 전담학과의 개설에 대하여 유학생 유치 확대, 유학생 대상 교육의 질적 수준 향상, 유학생 교육만족도 제고 등의 측면에서 설립 필요성과 기대효과에 대하여 긍정적으 로 인식하고 있다. 대학 특성별로는 지방소재 대학과 중규모, 대규모 대학의 외국인 유학생 전담학과 필요성과 기대효과에 대한 긍정적 인식이 높게 나타나고 있으며, 지방소재 중규모 대학은 유학생 교 육의 질적 수준 제고를 위한 전담학과 도입 필요성과 긍정적 효과를 상대적으로 높게 인식하고 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The recruitment of foreign students is a major indicator of the international competitiveness of universities. This study investigated the perception of the university field about the establishment of a department for foreign students studying abroad. The results of the study are as follows. It is recognized that the Department of Foreign Students Specialization is necessary to expand the number of foreign students. Also, it is recognized that it is necessary to improve the quality of education and satisfaction of international students. And the establishment of a department for foreign students is expected to have a positive effect on the nation, university, and international students. The results of the research by university characteristics are as follows. There was a difference in perception on the establishment of departments specialized for overseas students depending on the size and location of universities. Local universities, middle and large universities are positively aware of the necessity and expected effects of setting up departments of foreign students’ specialization. Local universities and meddle-sized universities especially needed to set up departments of foreign students’ specialization to improve the quality of education for foreign students.
