국익 추구의 도덕적 한계와 아리스토텔레스의 좋은 삶의 정치

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The paper is motivated by the notion that contemporary states face a sort of moral dilemma in pursuing their national interest: they are required both to exclude and to include moral dimensions in the pursuit of national interest. The paper attempts to solve the dilemma by exploring Aristotle's concept of politics of good life in the broader context of international politics. Chapter II casts the problems in the arena of Aristotelian politics by examining the significant act of pursuing national interest in the Aristotelian connection of individuals, states, and inter-states and by probing how problematic the act of pursuing national interest in this connecting relationship. Chapter III tries to find its solution in Aristotelian politics. It argues that when one interprets the meaning of Aristotle's priority of contemplative life in the international context, one can find a room for moral standard that is necessarily involved in pursuing national interest. Although the paper cannot present what is the specific moral standard that can be involved in the pursuit of national interest, it succeeds in opening a possibility of a new model of pursuing national interest that is possibly applicable to the age of globalization.
