In the face of a lack of rental housing compared to advanced countries despite the continuous housing supply, various types of rental housing supply projects have recently been carried out by local governments. This study analyzes Chungnam Happy-House policy with the housing demand and intention to live in rental housing.
The results are as follow: First, the demand for rental housing in Chungnam was estimated at 53,696 units, and except for 38,796 rental housing units which are already supplied, the demand for new rental housing is around 15,000 units. Second, according to the survey, even though the extent to which people know rental housing was low, the willingness to move in was relatively high, and those who wanted to move in were young people and vulnerable people with low incomes. Third, to successfully carry out the Chungnam Happy Housing project, it should go beyond simple housing supply projects and become a sustainable housing policy. For this, it is required to expand the main body of rental housing supply to the Chungnam Development Corporation and housing-related social and economic organizations. Besides, housing-related funds are also needed to secure money for the project. Finally, to efficiently promote small scale of Happy-House policy, linking the Happy-House policy to the central government’s New Deal for Urban Regeneration and empty houses utilization project is desirable.
