This paper aims to demonstrate successful cases of sixth industries in fishing villages using the knowledge conversion model proposed by Nonaka and Takeuchi. For this, two fishing villages in Chungnam were thoroughly analyzed using the knowledge conversion process, which addresses socialization, externalization, combination, and internalization.
The results show that the two fishing villages commenced sixth industries to solve problems and crises in the village, that these industries were promoted effectively and systematically through village organization, and that various income projects were implemented using village resources. Furthermore, we found out that internal and external promotion took place through fishing business activities.
This paper makes significant contributions as it studies the sixth industrial policy in terms of fishing villages and demonstrates successful cases in accordance with the unique resources and characteristics of fishing villages. It also suggests policy directions for and development steps of sixth industries in fishing villages using the knowledge conversion model.
