국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 글은 2020년대 코로나-19 팬데믹 이후 독서 시장에서 주목받은 ‘장소 힐링 소설’의 서사적 공통점을 분석하고, 변화하는 사회 현실과 대중의 기대에 대한 문학적 대응 방식을 살펴보는 데 목적이 있다. 『불편한 편의점』, 『어서 오세요, 휴남동 서점입니다』, 『연남동 빙굴빙굴 빨래방』 등의 작품은 독자에게 불필요한 긴장을 유발하지 않는 완결된 결말 구조를 통해 심리적 안정감을 제공한다. 특히 옴니버스식 구성은 독서의 피로도를 낮추는 동시에 인물 간의 유기적 연결을 효과적으로 드러내는 전략으로 작동한다. 소설 속 인물들은 일상인으로 각각 크고 작은 문제를 안고 있지만 공간을 매개로 형성된 관계에 의해 문제는 해결되는 양상을 보인다. 각 소설이 설정하고 있는 열린 공간으로서의 편의점과 서점, 빨래방은 일상 공간으로서 누구와도 연결될 수 있는 가능성의 공간, 환대의 공간으로 의미화되며, 이 공간을 중심으로 인물들은 돌보는 관계를 형성하게 된다. 성과주의의 피로와 코로나-19의 고립이 중첩된 2020년대, ‘장소 힐링 소설’은 독자들의 심리적 기대를 충실히 반영하고 있으며, 타인과의 연결과 상호 돌봄의 가능성을 구체화함으로써 문학의 역할을 수행하였다.

This study analyzes the narratological commonalities of ‘place healing novels’, a literary trend that has gained prominence in the post-2020 literary market following the COVID-19 pandemic, and examines how literature responds to shifting social realities and public expectations. Representative works such as Uncanny Convenience Store, Welcome to the Hyunam-dong Bookshop, and Yeonnam-dong Laundry provide readers with psychological stability through closed-ended narrative structures that avoid generating excessive tension. In particular, the omnibus narrative strategy functions as an effective device for reducing reading fatigue while vividly illustrating the organic interconnections among characters.
Although the characters depicted are ordinary individuals burdened with various personal difficulties, their problems are gradually resolved through relationships mediated by a shared space. In these narratives, everyday locations-such as convenience stores, bookstores, and laundromats-are re-signified as open spaces of hospitality and connection, where characters form communal bonds of mutual care. In the 2020s, a decade marked by the overlapping pressures of performance-driven culture and the isolation of COVID-19, 'place healing novels' have faithfully reflected the psychological expectations of readers. By embodying the potential for interpersonal connection and mutual care, this genre has successfully fulfilled the role of literature during a time of disaster.
