      The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of educational expenditures on retention and graduation rates. Using data from Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) and US News & World Report, and targeting 102 Doctoral/Research Universities - Extensive in USA, this study analyzed the relationship between 1-year retention and 6-year graduation rates and educational expenditures including instructional expenditure, academic support expenditure, student service expenditure, research expense, scholarships and fellowships expenditure, institutional support expenditure, and public service expenditure.
      The results of this study revealed that instructional expenditure was positively effect on retention and graduation rates while public service expenditure was negatively effect on those rates. Other expenditures did not significantly related with retention and graduation rates. The results suggest that instructional expenditure should be a top priority in distributing institutional expenditures if university wants to increase retention and graduation rates. In addition, university administrator should consider the proper level of public service expenditure since it negatively related to institutional retention and graduation rates.

Using data from Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) and US News & World Report, and targeting 102 Doctoral/Research Universities - Extensive in USA, this study analyzed the relationship between 1-year retention and 6-year graduation rates and educational expenditures including instructional expenditure, academic support expenditure, student service expenditure, research expense, scholarships and fellowships expenditure, institutional support expenditure, and public service expenditure.
