종교와 과학 담론으로 바라본 융의 분석심리학 = Understanding of Jung's Analytical Psychology from Science and Religion Perspectives

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 스위스의 분석심리학자 칼 구스타프 융(Carl Gustav Jung,1875-1961)의 심리학이 지닌 간학문적 성격, 즉 과학과 종교 간의 상호교차하는 특성에 대한 연구를 주요 과제로 삼았다. 융은 심리학이라는 학 문 분과의 논의 속에서 분트의 연상 실험과 프로이트의 성 이론에 대한 비판적 성찰을 그 출발점으로 삼아, 전 세대의 ‘사변적인 심리학’과 인간 심리의 복잡한 기제를 단순화시켜 이해하고자 하는 ‘과학주의적 사고’를 극복하 고자 했다. 융은 경험주의적인 과학적 방법론을 적극적으로 수용하되, 과학이 절대적이고 객관적인 진리를 답보한 것으로 인식되는 측면에 대해서는 비판적인 시각을 가졌다. 따라서 그는 과학의 합리성에 대한 기존의 관 념을 넘어 합리성에 대한 새로운 조명을 자신의 심리학적 구상 속에서 채택하여 분석심리학을 개척하였다. 더 이상 자연과 인간과 문화를 자연과학적 테두리에서만 환원적으로 조명할 수 없음을 융은 분석심리학이라는 제 안을 통하여 선명하게 제시한 것이다. 특히 융의 분석심리학은 인간의 마음, 심리를 좀 더 세밀하게 조명할 수 있는 하나의 길을 종교학과 신학에도 제시하여, 종교의 이해와 신학적 담론 구성이 간학문적 교섭과 변용으로 나아갈 수 있도록 하는데 기여하였다. 이러한 점에서 융의 새로운 심리학적 구상은 미래를 향한 신학과 과학, 종교와 과학의 대화에 있어서 유용한통찰이 될 수 있으리라 기대된다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study attempts to explore how Carl Gustav Jung'spsychological ideas constitute a synthesis of science and religion.His critical reflection of Wilhelm Wundt's philosophical understanding and Freud's materialistic-reductive view on the human mind played an important role to develop his ideas about science and religion. On the one hand, Jung considered the lack of unconditioned human experience in real life from Wundt's Assoziationsexperiment a limitation; on the other hand, he took a critical view of the ways that Freud mechanized and formalized psychic phenomena in his theory of sex. In view of these problems Jung tried to open up a new psychological field of knowledge to challenge established understandings on science and to reformulate the meaning of science. Thus, he helped sacralize human experiences and integrate such into his psychological analysis,because a scientific-only explanation of the human psyche was too impoverished. Considering that Jung’s approach was therefore interdisciplinary and supportive of theological understandings of human psyche and conscience, I believe that his significant insights about science and religion will provide us an effective starting point for more productive dialogues between theology/religion and science.
