≪第六才子書西廂記≫ 所載金聖歎의 서문 譯註 = A Translation with Annotation of Jin Shengtan’s Prefaces to His Edition of Xixiangji

This is the first complete Korean translation and annotation of The Sixth Book of Genius: The Western Wing’s第六才子書西廂記two prefaces written by the critic評點家Jin Shengtan金聖歎(1608~1661) who lived in the Ming and Qing era. Xixiangji西廂記is the Yuan drama元雜劇which was written by Wang Shifu 王實甫based on the love story of Zhang Sheng張生and Ying Ying鶯鶯in Tang Chuanq唐傳奇The story of Yingying鶯鶯傳. The Sixth Book of Genius: The Western Wing was published in 1656 with prefaces and commentaries評點by Jin Shengtan. The two prefaces, “The first preface: Weeping for the Ancients序一曰慟哭古人” and “The second preface: Dedicated to People in Future序二曰留贈 後人”, are famous texts that reveal Jin Shengtan’s life view and literary views, as well as his unique literary style. His innovative and original style of reviewing was already highly regarded in the Qing Dynasty, and The Sixth Book of Genius: The Western Wing, along with The Fifth Book of Genius: Water Margin Saga第五才子書水滸傳, attracted many readers in that time. Jin Shengtan also was an important figure who greatly influenced many famous novel critics in the Qing Dynasty.
