      李朝女人像 硏究  :  風俗과 文學과 相關 關係 in view of interrelation between custom and literature = A Woman Image in the Yi Dynasty

      This essay examines a typical woman image in the yi Dynasty in view of interrelation between custom and literature.
      The methodology here used is to analyse the texts for the woman moral such as $lt;女四書$gt; (Yu Sa Sur), $lt;內訓$gt; (Nai Hoon), $lt;閨鑑$gt; (Kyu Kam), $lt;閨坤儀則$gt; (Kyu Kwon Ue Chick). After this analysis, it is a second step to set up an ideal woman image which Confucian moral searched for. The third step is to investigate how this. image is silhouetted in literature. By this woman image which is incarnated in literature, filtered through Confucian idea of people in the yi Dynasty,-that image still exists in our reality,-this paper tries to set up a pattern for Korean woman image.
      $quot;Freilty, thy name is woman!$quot; is not a proper phrase for a woman in the yi Dynasty. They arc mentally more stout, more generous and more far sighted than week men of letters. For example, while their husbands in high class thought it shame to ask the price of rice, to handle money with their hands, they managed their household on the front line of life, serving to the memorial ceremony for their ancestors and to their parents in law, worrying about not breaking harmony among their relatives, and entertaining husbands, visitors in that poverty pecked age,
      In this big family system, women always had to behave themselves. They were supposed to be composed in any case and to serve to their husband, child and clan, neverthless, they never thought of their life self-negation or sacrifice. Also, they were supposed to supress their sentiment: they could not laugh even if they were delightful; neither could they get angry, nor even dream of coveting. Envy was. one of seven divorce conditions even if their husbands took advantage of polygamy. The higher the status was, the more unaffected the women became. They had. even to keep secret of their scholarship. They were almost woman sages.
      Those woman sages in literature were as follows: Madame Kwak(郭氏) in $lt;沈淸傳$gt; (Shim cheung zeun) was a model of vital power diligence and humility according with husband.
      The high society women in $lt;閑中錄$gt; (Han zoong rock), in particular, Madamer Lee (韓山李氏) who was a mother in law of Prince Sa Do (思悼世子) outstood in her generosity and decency.
      Queen In Hyeun (仁顯王后) and Madame Sa (,謝氏) were super women in their self-denial and far-sighted philosophy. Mixture of those above women might be a woman image in the yi Dynasty.
