With the development and distribution of digital technology, modern people have become inseparable from digital media, and exchanges between human and digital have become essential forms of life. Due to the influence of this period, discussions for digital and more efficient communication have been steadily emerging in various academic and industrial fields including cognitive psychology. In the field of design, the user's experience and emotions is focused on in order to secure customers in the digital market whom are leveled up. It is aimed at bringing higher value through emotional communication as well as simple practicality. The significance of this phenomenon is also mentioned in the AI market, which has emerged as the core of the 4th industry in recent years. Consumers from AI devices that are increasingly in their daily lives demand not only the purpose of acquiring information, but also the smooth communication, such as conversation between people.
Speakers, which are currently representative of AI devices, provide a visual interface that uses light in addition to voice support. Through the light, the user recognizes the status information, such as the operation status and the progress, thereby enabling effective interaction. Therefore, light can be seen as a basic element of visual interface, and it can be said that light can generate rich emotional sympathy through various configurations as well as information transmission.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of AI devices using visual elements on user's emotions as a visual interaction method. For this purpose, literature review was conducted on the understanding of AI and the interface of voice-based AI, and the elements of light were subdivided into color and motion, and the theoretical consideration was also given to each element. In addition, it set up the basis of experiments for 'AI speaker emotional interaction' to be conducted in Ⅳ and Ⅴ with AI light interface case study through market analysis.
Experiments were conducted in two steps: 'first experiment for emotional analysis' and 'second experiment for improving emotional transmission'. The color and movement of light were set, and the stimuli were presented with 9 basic colors and 9 basic motions that can be embodied in the product. The analyzed results are plotted on Russell 's effect grid and analyzed to make a visual comparison.
In the first experiment, the color and movement of light were discovered to affect the user's emotional changes. In particular, it was judged that the movement has a significant influence on the emotions by deriving a meaningful value from independent variable of form and speed. In the second experiment based on the first experiment, it was concluded that the combination of the two elements with emotional matching makes the sensitivity more explicit. The combination of the most suitable color and movement for each area is as follows. 1 area (arousal, unpleasant / moody, stress, tension) is 'Red' and 'Blink 0.3 seconds' is 62.58%, 2 areas (awakening, enjoyable / pleasant, excitement, ecstasy, joy) is 58.99% in 'Pink' and 'Rhythm', 3 areas (sleep, unpleasant / moody, depressed, sad, dark) are classified as ‘Bluish Violet' and ‘Fade’ 58.45% of the respondents and finally, those who answered 'Green' and 'Gradation-Down' were the lowest in 63.44% which is over the half of total figure in the last 4 areas (sleep, enjoyable/pleasant, calm, relieved, tranquility. As a result, the light interaction of the AI device has been shown to give various stimuli to the user's emotions and affect the satisfaction and favorability. Furthermore, it can be expected to increase the use sustainability by inducing continuous use of the device. It is hoped that the color and movement of light will be utilized as the emotional interaction of the AI device, thereby maximizing the interaction between the user and the product, and providing natural and more user-friendly usability. Moreover, it is expected that this kind of interaction with various light elements will be a catalyst for creating and fostering new experiences.
