This research is to explore the predictive power of the EPPM(extended parallel process model), the most recent fear appeal theoiy. To accomplish this goal, this study investigated the model's central hypotheses and the main results of researches using EPPM. The EPPM suggests that threat appears to interact with efficacy such that high threat/high efficacy messages promote danger control process leading to acceptance of the message's recommendations. In contrast high threat/low efficacy messages elicit fear control processes leading to rejection of the message's recommendations and performance of various psychological defenses including denial, defensive avoidance, or reactance. The EPPM has been tested by a number of researchers, and relatively consistent results have emerged. Unfortunately, we can hardly find any documents with the EPPM in Korea. I expect researchers to produce many perfomances using the EPPM soon.
