Recently, many researchers have actively performed studies regarding underground radioactive waste repository isolation. The purpose of this study was to provide basic data for the underground radioactive waste repository isolation. In order to accomplish this purpose, we investigated the permeability characteristics in the single discontinuity under the deep depth environment.
We produced 9 specimens from the coarse-grained, medium-grained and fine-grained granite (3 specimens from each type of granite). We used the core of NX-size for the specimens.
We made a single discontinuity in the specimens through Brazilian test after constructing the wedge-type connecting device.
We performed a permeability test by applying the confining pressure of 10Mpa, 15Mpa, and 20Mpa, which are equivalent to the pressure of underground at the deep depth environment. We measured JRC values for each type of grained degree using Profile gauge and calculated the hydraulic aperture.
The results showed that the permeability coefficient and the hydraulic aperture were decreased with the increase in the confining pressure. JRC (Joint Roughness Coefficient) value was increased with the increase in the grain-size.
