This study empirically analyzes the relationship between land use mix and population density (as of 2025) and per capita GRDP (as of 2022) across 122 non-metropolitan cities and counties, using building register data and calculating Relative Entropy (R.E.) based on the floor area of six sectors (residential, commercial/service, office/knowledge, manufacturing/logistics, agriculture/livestock, public/other). Complementary indicators such as the Gini coefficient (G) and normalized Herfindahl-Hirschman Index (HHI*) were also employed. The analysis shows that entropy has a strong negative correlation with the Gini coefficient (r=−0.831) and HHI* (r=−0.828), while exhibiting a weak positive correlation with per capita GRDP (r=0.166). K-means clustering classified the regions into three types: high-diversity balanced (48), medium-diversity mixed (47), and low-diversity concentrated (27). High-diversity regions demonstrated advantages in economic vitality and spatial balance. Global Moran’s I analysis confirmed significant spatial autocorrelation for entropy (0.401) and per capita GRDP (0.258), while LISA analysis revealed High-High clusters in northern Chungcheongnam-do and Low-Low clusters in inland Jeollanam-do and Gyeongsangnam-do. OLS regression indicated that entropy had a significant positive effect on per capita GRDP (β=37.09, p<0.05), though explanatory power was low (R²=0.039). Applying the Spatial Lag Model revealed strong spatial dependence (ρ=0.300, p<0.001), with explanatory power improving substantially (R²=0.138). Based on these findings, the study proposes land use planning strategies such as setting an entropy target of 0.8 or higher, balanced development of residential, commercial, and office sectors, compact development promotion, and establishment of interregional cooperation systems.
