광주광역시의 도시 재생과 지속가능한 도시 성장 방안 = Urban Regeneration and Sustainable Growth Strategies in Gwangju Metropolitan City

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The current issue of urban policy is the decline of downtown and urban regeneration. This paper investigates the process of urban regeneration, and deducts the sustainable urban growth strategies based on its identity and potential resources in Gwangju. Since the 1960s, urban regeneration has been implemented by means of the physical regeneration such as housing redevelopment, housing reconstruction, urban environmental improvement and housing environmental improvement in Gwangju. In recent years, urban regeneration is practiced based on the culture, the preservation of modern heritage, the community participation, and Gwangju Urban-Folly Project. They are the architectural, social, cultural and environmental urban regeneration policy. For the sustainable urban growth, it should be a citizen`s initiative urban regeneration policy. In addition, urban identity should be established through cultural and historical resources. The urban regeneration should be carried out ecologically and continuously with creation and utilization of new resources.
