침묵하는 기호들의 광기와 치유 = Insanity and healing of silent sign

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본고에서는 차쓰 기저(Csáth Géza)의 단편소설 “검은 침묵”(Fekete csönd)과 샬롯 퍼킨스 길먼(Charlotte Perkins Gilman, 1860~1935)의 『누런 벽지』(The Yellow Wallpaper), 그리고 진 리이스(Jean Rhys, 1894-1979)의 『광막한 사르가소 바다』(Wide Sargasso Sea)에 나타난 작중 중심인물의 광기와 그 해소, 혹은 치유의 과정을 살펴보았다. 세 작품 중 유일하게 “검은 침묵”은 남성작가가 바라보는 화자의 광기를 다루었고, 『누런 벽지』에서는 우울증을 경험한 여성작가가 자신의 경험을 바탕으로 여성의 광기를 다루었으며, 『광막한 사르가소 바다』는 『제인 에어』에서 침묵당하고 감금당한 주변부 인물인 버사를 중심에 내세워, 그녀의 입장에서 이야기를 풀어나가도록 장치한 작품이다. 세 작품 각각 개인적, 여성적, (탈)식민지적이라는 기저를 바탕에 두고 서사를 이어가지만 광기라는 공히 공통의 소재를 가지고 그 치유, 혹은 해소의 문제를 나름 독특한 서사와 문체로 풀어가고 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

In this manuscript, I examined Csáth Géza(1887-1919)'s short story, <Black silence(Fekete csönd)>, Charlotte Perkins Gilman(1860~1935)'s novel, The Yellow Wallpaper, and Jean Rhys(1894-1979)'s novel, Wide Sargasso Sea. with the viewpoint of the solution of the insanities and its process which the protagonists wore in the novels respectively. Among these three novels, only the <Black silence> deals with the insanity of the narrator from the sight of man writer, and others are from the women writers with the psychiatrical narrative. In case of Wide Sargasso Sea, Berta Mason who performed a dependant personality(character) in Jane Eyre, was brought to the fore as a protagonist by the writer, and the its narrative is also developed from her standpoint into main story. However, Charlotte Perkins Gilman who was once hypochondria deals with the insanity of woman on the base of her experience. All three works have other bases of their narratives separately, in other words, the personality in <Black silence>, the postcoloniality in Wide Sargasso Sea, and the femininity in The Yellow Wallpaper, but with the common motive called the insanity the writers worked out the problems of healing or the reconciliation of the characters showing unique narratives and polished styles.
