Design Concept Study of Kitchen Utensils for Single Household

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study is to suggest the design concept of kitchen utensils for single households. A Literature investigation had been taken to gain general knowledge about single households' lifestyle including their residential environment, consumption tendency and diet. Moreover, interview was conducted to find out single households’ unmet needs in their cooking process. Four pilot interviews were planned to gain specific direction for in-depth interview, and 14 cases of in-depth interviews were therefore produced. In order to analysis the in-depth interviews, K.J diagram was used to gain more specific and reliable quantitative data. Three keywords such as simplicity, comfort, and customizing are evaluated accordingly. As a result, single households’ cooking habit, pattern, and style could be analyzed. In conclusion part, kitchen utensils kit is suggested for the group who does not have strong interest on cooking, yet they rarely cook at home when necessary. Hence, further investigation to understand the taste of kitchen utensils is needed by considering its size, function, and performance in single households' cooking environment.
