    The demand for construction safety managers has been steadily increasing due to evolving societal needs and stricter regulatory requirements, including the Special Act on Construction Safety. However, many companies struggle to maintain effective safety management because of a shortage of qualified professionals and difficulties in securing adequate personnel. To address these challenges, this study seeks to promote academic discussions on the establishment of construction safety engineering programs at the university level. Despite the high accident mortality rate in the construction industry, specialized departments dedicated to construction safety remain limited.
    Existing industrial safety engineering programs mainly emphasize fire prevention and general safety, while construction-specific courses are only minimally available at some graduate institutions.
    This study proposes a strategic educational model for a linked/interdisciplinary major in construction safety that integrates disciplines closely related to construction sites, such as architectural engineering, civil engineering, architecture, urban engineering, and industrial engineering. The proposed model aims to provide learners with fundamental knowledge, professional expertise, and familiarity with safety-related laws, while cultivating practical competencies without creating a separate department.
    Ultimately, this framework is designed to enhance students’ competitiveness and respond effectively to industry demands and societal responsibilities.
