This paper provides a framework for understanding the role of Eros and Philia in Aristotle ethics. Eros and Philia seem to attest alike to affection and something fundamental in our lives for our happiness, but whatever common natural root they might share, the differences between them are striking. Most people believe that Eros is a sexual desire belong to the lover and a feeling of being transported, possessed by something beyond our control like madness; Philia is a good relationship with lovers and reciprocal experience. Eros comes as a disruption and faces us suddenly, but Philia emerges and develops over time. This contrast understanding between them would seem to lead to the very concepts in Plato`s three dialogues-Lysis, Symposium, Phaidros-and Aristotle`s Nicomachean Ethics. Then, what is ‘the perfect love’ in Aristotle? Why is the Eros which is the central and ubiquitous from Homer replaced by a new kind of love, Philia requiring justice as the source of the existence of human friendship? In this paper, I shall try to disentangle the various aspects of Eros and Philia in Aristotle`s Nicomachean Ethics, especially Book 8 and 9 and provide some assistance to understand the perfect love as a virtue by the koinonia of living together in a society; Eros as a desire and passion is explained in the psychological and individual life, but Aristotle`s Philia as a virtue is explained in the social and political life toward the common good.
