듀이의 프래그마티즘과 사회과교육에서 시민성 개념의 재구성: 인간성, 도덕성, 사회성, 정치성의 유기적 결합 = John Dewey's Pragmatism and Reconstruction of Citizenship Concept in Social Studies: Organic Solidarity of Humanity, Morality, Sociality and the Political

This study was to investigate organic solidarity of the humanity, morality, sociality, and the political linked to the citizenship concept into Dewey's pragmatism. According to Dewey, it was briefed on humanity as social action, morality as qualitative experience with reflection, sociality as communication in community, and the political as a way of life to create democracy. Citizenship education in social studies got a plentiful something through interaction among these concepts. Especially, humanity/morality was a theoretical base and sociality/the political was a practical manifestation of citizenship. Finally the direction of citizenship education got toward the creative democracy through humanity, morality and sociality.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 듀이의 프래그마티즘을 통해 인간성, 도덕성, 사회성, 정치성 개념을 파악하고, 이들 간의 유기적 결합을 통해서 사회과교육에서 시민성 개념을 심화·확장하여 재구성하는데 있었다. 듀이에 따르면, 인간성은 환경과 상호작용하는 사회적 행위로, 도덕성은 반성이 있는 질적인 경험으로, 사회성은 공동체 속에서 의사소통으로, 정치성은 민주주의를 창조하는 생활양식으로 나타났다. 이들 사이의 유기적인 상호 연계는 사회과 시민성교육을 담론적으로 더욱 풍부하게 하였다. 즉, 인간성과 도덕성은 시민성 개념을 뒷받침하는 이론적인 기반으로서, 사회성과 정치성은 시민성 개념을 실천적으로 발현시키는 차원으로서 작동하였다. 더불어 네 가지의 유기적 흐름이 정치성으로 수렴되면서 시민성교육은 시민이 창조적 민주주의를 발휘하는 방향으로 전개되었다.
