The purpose of this study was to provide elmentary and theoretical materials to curriculum studies in Korea through the analysis on making and developing process of extra-curricular activities and optional activities in Korea and japen after the war. To accomplish the purpose of this study, the authors (1) analyzed the change of the curriculum scope and curricularization process of extra-curriculua activities, moreover the relationship and the educational significance of a subject and recent trends of extra-curricular activities, and (3) inquired into the characterisics and exta-curricular activities in curriculum, (2) clearified the chaning process and recent trends of optional activities, throught the analysis of the course of study for the elementary school and secondary school in Korea and Japan after the World War Ⅱ. In Korea, the course of study for extra-curricular activities was formulated in 1954, and was revised six times in 1963, 1971, 1981, 1987, 1992, and 1998 respectively As for Japan, the course of study for extra-cruuicular activities was formulated in 1947, but was revised six times in 1951, 1958, 1968, 1997, 1989, and 1998 respectively. The authors (1) found out that there are many common characters in the changing process of the curriculum, especially in the making and developing process of extra-curricula activities between Korea and Japan, (2) explored the similarities and differences of optional activities between two nations, and (3) suggested the various points of improvements to extra-curricular activities and optional activities in Korea.
