To solve the negative externality like environmental problems and natural resource depletion due to conventional industrial development, developed countries have launched Eco-Industrial Park (EIP) development projects, which can enhance both economic and environmental efficiency. Recently researchers insist that EIP development projects be based on Eco-Industrial Development in the realm of regional development.
Thus, this study has intented to classify Eco-Industrial Park (EIP) development strategies, and analyze the impact structure of Eco-Industrial Development (EID) characteristics on the EIP development strategies.
To reach this goal, this study has performed the following process: 1) this study has collected opinions through expert survey method; and 2) this study has adopted 'factor analysis' to classify the EIP development strategies, and 'Partial Least Square-structural equation model‘ to analyze the impact structure.
As a result, this study has found the following results: 1) 3 features of EIP strategies have been grouped into 6 factors and 5 variables using factor analysis, 2) as of the impact structure analysis, two statistically significant paths were identified. The first path of the ‘material circulation system development 2’ factor that belongs to the ‘material circulation system development’ among EID characteristics imparted direct significant impact (+0.524(t=2.948**)) on the EIP development. The second path of the ‘material circulation system development 1 and 2’ factors that belong to the ‘material circulation system development’ among the EID characteristics had ‘very high significance level’ of impact on the ‘cooperative system development 1’ factor that belongs to ‘cooperative system development’, which, in turn, ultimately imparted significant impact (+0.570(t=1.838*)) on the EIP development.
This study may contribute to finding the causal relationship between EIP development strategies and EID characteristics, helping decision-makers concentrate their interests on strengthening some influential EID factors to activate EIP development.
