This study aims to identify the structural mechanisms that produce the failure of justice by analyzing the absence of restorative justice and the operation of communal silence in the film <The Stoning of Soraya M.>.
An integrated analytical framework combining Galtung’s structural violence theory and Zehr’s restorative justice theory is applied, and the qualitative analysis focuses on narrative development, socio-cultural context, power relations among characters, and symbolic scenes that reveal the absence of restorative justice and the persistence of communal silence. The analysis confirms a structure in which institutional oppression through legal–religious collusion, the cultural legitimization of violence through honor discourse, and the community’s silence collectively justify and reproduce violence. The resulting failure of justice leads to the collapse of communal ethics, and overcoming this failure requires dismantling the structure of silence, restoring relationships, and reestablishing communal ethical foundations.
