While the Korean society emphasizes efficiency just for economic growth and science-centered education, education for humanities has not been emphasized. Therefore, education for humanities is emphasized in our society at home, school and in our society at present. 『Myeongsim Bogam』 mainly describes precepts and practical behaviors in our life and is read by many people as a book for self-cultivation.
Chapter 「Gyeseon」 in 『Myeongsim Bogam』 tells us to continue to do something good. However, the good things in Chapter 「Gyeseon」 are not based just on any specific idea. It points out that the heart for steadily doing the good things is important regardless of the type of the good based on any idea.
Every reader can see different values of 『Myeongsim Bogam』 depending on their point of view, and the meaning of a desired good thing can be different as the case may be. As described above, Myeongsim Bogam can provide people of a different idea with an opportunity for living a good life from the point of the concerned person.
『Myeongsim Bogam』 emphasizes humanities for communication with other people, for example, being a good child for one’s parents, friendship and senses of duty for friends, relationship with a spouse, relationship with siblings and relationship between adults and young people. In this respect, it is an open book of wisdom applicable to the modern society because it leaves room for readers to accept and practice the wisdom from their own standpoint.
