The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of firm-bristle toothbrush and fine-bristle toothbrush on the removal of dental plaque in college students. As a result of making a comparative analysis, the fine-bristle toothbrush group was more effective at eliminating dental plaque than the firm-bristle toothbrush group. Also, the students investigated had a quite higher preference for the fine-bristle toothbrush group than the firm-bristle one.
The findings of the study illustrated that fine bristles have a better effect on the removal of the dental plaque of adults who are in good oral health. In the future, a wide variety of toothbrushes whose bristles are all different in intensity and form should be produced and supplied in order for consumers to choose a toothbrush suitable for themselves, and the standardization of labeling and size for toothbrush bristles is required.
