조선 초엽 漢陽定都과정과 수도 방위 = Determining of the Capital City and Defensive system of the National Capital Region in Early Joseon Dynasty

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

There was too much adverse criticism until Hanyang( 漢陽) was settled as<br/>
new capital city by King Taejo( 太祖)， at August 1394, As soon as the Josun<br/>
Dynasty had founded at July 1392, King Taejo, a few high-ranking<br/>
government officials and geomancers went on great controversy during two<br/>
years, The matter was difference of the thoughts about the ideal place of new<br/>
capital city between government officials and geomancers, Whether the lay of<br/>
the land was profitable to defence or not was not considered seriously as<br/>
much as the matter of strength of energy of earth, of convenience of the<br/>
traffic, But the profitability to defence of it was not disregarded at alL<br/>
The international condition of East Asia in late 14th century when Joseon<br/>
Dynasty was estab!ished, came to standstill in the hegemony of Ming( 明)<br/>
Dynasty, In spite of damaged relationship between Ming Dynasty and<br/>
Goryo( 高麗) D ynasty has succeeded to Joseon D ynasty, there was little<br/>
possibility of occurring of war between both dynasty. The government<br/>
officials of Joseon Dynasty concerned with invasion of Mongol and pillage of<br/>
Yojin( 女률) soldiers or Japanese pirates. It was the reason of the profitability to defence was not disregarded by the government officials of Joseon Dynasty.<br/>
The wall of capital city( 都城) was constructed in great concern of King<br/>
Taejo, who was one of the distinguished generals in history of Korea. The<br/>
central army of Joseon Dynasty which was divided into Ten Guards( 十司， <br/>
十衛) at first defended mainly the wall of capital city and also defended<br/>
secondarily royal palace. But in decreased possibility of occurring of war,<br/>
most of them had to engaged in defense of royal palace, in the days of King<br/>
Taejong‘s( 太宗reign. The changed mission of central army was continued till the organization of them was divided into Five Guards( 五衛in the period of King Sejo‘s( 世祖reign. In the defensive system of the whole country, the defense of the wall of capital city and royal palace occupied merely subordinary position.
