The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of Silver Taekwondo participation on basic physical fitness, body balance, and blood lipid profiles in older women and to provide scientific evidence supporting the promotion of Taekwondo participation among the elderly population. A total of 29 women aged 60 years and older were recruited from community sport programs and assigned to either an exercise group (n = 14) or a control group (n = 15). Basic physical fitness, body balance, and blood lipid variables were measured before and after the intervention. Independent t-tests and two-way ANOVA were conducted using SPSS 29.0, and the level of statistical significance was set at .05. The results showed that participation in the 12-week Silver Taekwondo program produced significant improvements in lower-body strength, cardiorespiratory endurance, flexibility, and balance.
Upper-body strength and coordination also showed positive trends, and a significant time-by-group interaction effect was observed for upper-body strength. In terms of body balance, asymmetry in the shoulder and hip joints was significantly reduced. Regarding blood lipid profiles, triglyceride levels significantly decreased, and a significant interaction effect was found for high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C). These findings suggest that Silver Taekwondo may contribute positively to improving physical fitness, body balance, and health-related outcomes in older women.
