Sulfur dioxide, a major atmospheric pollutant, influences to photosynthesis and causes some damages such as chlorosis and necrosis etc. When SO₂ enters into leaf tissue through the Stomata, it produces H,^+ HSO^-₃ and SO₃^(2-) as it is dissolved in the water of cells. Lettuce(Lactuca sativa L.) leaves were treated with H₂SO₄ at different pH values(pH 2.6, 3.6, 4.6 and 5.6). Depending an acidity, chlorophyll, crude protein, crude lipid, water and ash contents of lettuce leaves were decreased by experimental acid rain. But carbohydrate content was increased. It could be considered that such increased carbohydrate contents resulted from fiber.
