Recently it is active to discuss the characteristics of welfare state which is based on the concept of Esping-Anderson's welfare state regime-types in social welfare discourse. However, it has been criticised for the possibility that Esping-Anderson's welfare state regime types could be a proper indicator to identify the characteristics of Korean welfare state. In particular, it is pointed out the lack of consideration for new issues, such as the shift of family function, women's participation in labour market. Western feminists have also tried to clarify the characteristics of welfare state since Esprng-Andersen's publication of Three Worlds of Welfare Capitalism. They analyzed that three indicators, - "de-commodification", "stratification", "the relations between the state and the market"- of Esping-Andersen's analytical scheme, cannot reflect female lives due to no consideration of gender dimension. It can be the linear process of the raised question of patriarchal characteristics of welfare state. Therefore, the welfare state models of Esping-Andersen attempted to categorize the welfare state regime through the fundamental standards of the feature of the visual regime. However feminists analyze that this phenomenon is related to the characteristics of the patriarchal welfare state, including the gender division of labour and gender-biased citizenship.
