본 연구는 '한국에서의 현대적 몸·삶과 미국의 역할'을 주제로 하여, 한국 사회에서 공중보건, 위생, 생활개선운동의 정착 과정과 이에 대한 미국의 역할을 고찰하고자 하였다. 특히 한국전쟁기 전염병 방역의 추이, 전후 대한민국의 공중보건, 의료, 위생 정책과 미국의 역할을 규명하기 위하여 유엔민간원조사령부(UNCACK), 극동군유엔사령부 G-5, 미8군이 생산한 보고서를 분석하였다.
