한국전쟁 기간 미국의 대한(對韓) 방송활동 = VOA 한국어방송과 VUNC를 중심으로

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study analyzed U.S. Broadcasts to Korea during the Korean War and evaluated their historical meaning and effect. Particularly the review was to the way and policies the VOA Korean Service and the VUNC took at that time, and their relations with Korean Broadcasting System(KBS) as well. In addition it was looked into how the radio audience recognized and listened to these two broadcastings. The two broadcastings were utilized as means of psychological warfare by U.S.A. who participated in the Korean War, and assumed a leading role as the representative media which gave a great belief in them to Korean people, especially for the news of war situation. Also the two broadcastings provided important information sources to Korea’s newspapers and broadcasting, and for military operations of Korean Army, too. The VUNC supervised KBS for psywar purpose, and for the time being after the recovering of Seoul from the North Korea, took charge of operation of KBS in Seoul and directly managed the operation of the Pyeongyang Broadcasting after occupation of North Korea. Moreover the VUNC supported KBS extensively with financial support to restore the broadcasting facilities, supply of main equipments and personnel for broadcasting and provision of programs, etc. Through such process, U.S. broadcasts to Korea during the Korean War made a role as the means of cultural cold war and formed good image for America as patron of Korean people.
