기독교의 이데올로기 관련성과 정치이데올로기적 역할

국문 초록 (Abstract)

‘이데올로기’라고 매도되던‘해방신학’에서처럼, ‘이데올로기’는 교회 안팎에서 흔히‘나쁜 것’으로 간주되곤 했는데 그런 편견은 극복되어야 한다. ‘이데올로기’는‘더 나은 세상에 대한 신념과 그런 세상을 위한 정치적ㆍ사회적 프로그램을 형성하는 원칙이나 사고의 체계’이므로 우리에게 필요한 것이다. 그리고 역사상의 기독교는 이데올로기로부터 자유롭지도 초연하지도 않았다. 기독교는 이데올로기성, 이데올로기 비판성뿐만 아니라 이데올로기 초월성도 지닌다. 또한 기독교는‘하느님 나라’의 정치질서에 기반을 둔 미래에 대한 신념과 비전을 지니기에 정치 이데올로기적인 특성도 지닌다. 기독교는, 본연의‘예언자적 역할’에 입각하여, 일반 정치 이데올로기들에게 정치 이데올로기들이 추구해야 할 궁극적인 방향을 제시해주는‘빛’의 역할과, 그 이데올로기들이 잘못되어 갈 때엔 그들을 규탄하는‘소금’의 역할을 해 줄 수 있다. 이데올로기적 접근을 통해서 신학과 사회과학이, 그리고 신앙과 정치가, 만나므로 기독교의 이데올로기 관련성 연구는 중요하다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

As seen in the case of liberation theology that has been harshly criticized as nothing but an ‘ideology’, there has been strong prejudice against the term ‘ideology’from within and without the church. This article argues, first of all, that the prejudice can be overcome by defining ‘ideology’properly and rationally as the body of doctrine or thought forming a belief in, and a political or social program for, a better world, not merely stigmatizing it as a bad thing preoccupied with partial interests or class interests. This article, then, explores how the Christian religion is related to ideology and what politico-ideological roles it can play to secular political ideologies. Major arguments are as follows:
Firstly, the Christian religion in history has neither been free from nor aloof from ideologies.
Secondly, it has characteristics that equal to ideologies, on the one hand, and that transcend ideologies, on the other, for it pursues something eternal and universal, e.g., the justice of the Kingdom of God. These dual characteristics enable it to play some critical and enlightening roles to secular ideologies.
Thirdly, it also has politico-ideological characteristics in that it seeks to realize the Kingdom of God in this real world. It has body of doctrine or thought forming a belief in and a vision for the future based on a better political order. It is owing to the characteristics of the religion, both politico-ideological and transcendent, that the ‘prophetic role’of Christian religion can play the role of “the light and the salt”for political ideologies, showing them the eventual direction they will have to seek, and denouncing them when they degenerate into nothing but reigning ideologies that play the hypocrite.
And, lastly, ideological approach is indispensable for us to understand how the Christian religion actually can work for making the world better and how religious faith can be connected to political action. It is through ideological approach that theology meets social sciences, and that religious faith meets politics.
