영상만이 가능한 무용표현 - 노먼 맥라렌의 “파드되(Pas de deux)”를 중심으로

국문 초록 (Abstract)

노먼 맥라렌(McLaren)의 “파드되”는 발레안무와 영화기술을 융합한 실험영상으로 영화사에 중요한 영향 을 끼친 작품으로 평가된다. 무용영상에 있어서 영상기법의 역할을 이해하고 영상만이 가능한 무용표현 의 의의를 모색하는 것은 대단히 중요하다. 본 연구에서는 “파드되”에서 사용된 영상기법을 편집, 중첩, 시간조작을 중심으로 분석하였다. 연구자는 작품을 관찰, 해체하고 데이터화하여 기법이 사용된 부분의 체계와 형식을 파악하고자 하였다. 각 영상기법은 무용안무의 의도와 밀접하게 관계하고, 공연과는 다른 무용영상만의 차별성을 부여하는 기능을 하였다. 편집은 카메라의 움직임, 신체의 크기 등을 변화시켜 관객 시선의 몰입을 유도하였다. 중첩은 분리형, 거울형, 연쇄형의 타입으로 무용에 초현실적 경험을 부 여하였다. 시간조작은 슬로모션, 정지, 반복을 통하여 안무리듬을 재구성하는 기능을 하였다. 이러한 융 합예술에 있어서, 영상의 역할을 기법적 측면에서 고찰한 본 연구가 무용영상을 제작하기 위한 이 시대 의 작가들에게 도움이 되기를 기대한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Norman McLaren's "Pas de deux" is an experimental film that combines ballet choreography and film technology, and it is regarded as a work that has made an important impact on the history of the film industry. It is very important to understand the roles of cinematic techniques in dance films and to search for the significance of dance expressions that only moving images make possible. In this research, I analyze the cinematic techniques used in "Pas de deux" by focusing on editing, superposition and time remapping. The structures and forms of the parts where the techniques were used were analyzed by observing, disassembling and schematizing the works. Each of the cinematic techniques was closely related to the intentions of dance choreography and functioned to differentiate only dance films from stage performances. Editing led to the immersion of the viewer's gaze using techniques such as changes of camera movements and of the size of the body. Superposition resulted in surrealistic experiences of different types with regard to dance, including separation and mirrors and chains. Time remapping functioned to reconstruct choreography rhythms through slow motion, freezing and repetition. I hope that this research on the roles of moving images in intermedia art will be helpful for artists of this era who strive to produce dance films.
