세계화 시대에서의 한국 자본주의의 성격 = The Characteristics of Korean Capitalism at the Age of Globalization: Multiple Modernities and the Role of Culture

국문 초록 (Abstract)

1990년의 사회주의권의 와해와 최근의 중동의 민주화 혁명이 보여주듯이 세계의 정치제도는 자유민주주의로 수렴하고 있다. 그리고 WTO 이후 고립된 국민경제는 더 이상 존재하지 않으며 상품과 금융이 국민경제의 벽을 넘어 자유로이 드나들고 있다. 더 나아가 EU처럼 인적 교류마저 자유로이 이동하는 국경 없는 하나의 세계가 인류의 미래로 나타나고 있다.
세계화 시대에서 한국이 정치, 경제, 대중문화, 교육, 기술 개발에서 선두를 달리는 이유는 거시사회적으로 볼 때 여러 가지 역사 과정의 복합된 결과이다. 우선 미신과 다신론에서 벗어나 일신론인 불교를 4세기부터 받아들임으로서 세계에 대한 긍정적 세계관을 갖게 되었고 다시 조선 왕조에 이르러 유교를 받아들이면서 정교政敎 분리를 이미 14세기부터 실현하여 서구적 의미에서의 ‘세속사회’의 기초를 이룩하였다. 유교는 학문을 최고의 가치로 추구하여 그 결과 오늘날까지도 한국은 교육열에 있어서 세계 최고이다. 그리고 완전한 시민사회는 아니었지만 면대면 범위를 훨씬 뛰어넘는 전통적인 넓고 중층적인 혈연, 지연, 학연의 망은 현대적인 이차원적 사회 구성을 용이하게 하고 조직에 순응하고 헌신하게 하였다. 이러한 역사적 자산들이 지식과 기술이 가장 많은 부를 창출하는 현대 세계에서 한국의 성공을 도출하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The collapse of socialist countries in 1990 and the democratic changes of Middle East shows that the political system of the world is converging towards the liberal democracy. And after the WTO, there is no isolated national economy. Commodities and capital are almost freely exchanged over the national border. Moreover, one word without national borders is rising in the horizon where man can freely migrate as in the case of EU.
The distinguishing development of recent Korea in the areas of politics, economy, popular couture, education, and technology is the result of complex historical processes of Korea. Korea accepted monotheistic Buddhism in fourth century departing from the superstition and polytheism, resulting in the positive world view. And from the Yi-Dynasty in fourteenth century, Korea accepted Confucianism and achieved the seperation of religion and politics which was the basis of so called ‘secular society’in modern Europe. Confucianism believed the leaning as the utmost goal of life, which is reflected in the contemporary aspiration of education which is the world best. And the traditional social networks of kinship, region, and schools which was far more broad and multi-dimensional than the face-to-face relationship contributed to forming and conforming the modern secondary and anonymous social organizations. These historical heritages contributed to the Korean successes in modern world where knowledge and technology produce most social wealth.
