국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 논문은 아인 랜드(Ayn Rand)의 ‘자기애’ 개념의 이해를 통해 두 가지를 시도한다. 첫째, 도덕적 사회관계를 위하여 자유주의의 가치 중 ‘박애(사랑)’가 자유와 평등 못지않게 하나의 대안적 시각을 제공하기에 충분하다는 믿음의 검토이다. 랜드의 ‘자기애’ 개념은 도덕적 사회의 근거를 설명하는데, 이를 이해하는 과정에서 인간관계에서의 사람의 사회학적 의미를 성찰할 수 있게 한다. 둘째, 페미니즘의 시선을 통해서 랜드의 ‘자기애’를 평가하는 것은 랜드가 페미니즘의 발전에 시사하는 바를 확인하는 작업이기도 하다.
이 연구는 첫째, 아인 랜드의 인식론인 객관주의에 나타나는 이성의 역할과 그것의 ‘자기애’와의 관계를 통해 페미니즘의 인식론과 랜드의 인식론을 비교한다. 둘째, 랜드가 주장하는 이기적 개인주의가 자본주의 이상에서만이 실현 가능하다는 것에 대해 알아보고 랜드의 자본주의 인간형을 개인주의적 페미니즘의 도덕적 인간형과 비교한다. 셋째, 랜드가 강하게 비판하는 집단주의적 사회주의가 강조하는 형제애는 랜드에게는 어떤 형태로 나타나며 이것은 사회과학 패러다임을 바꾸려는 페미니즘에서 특히 사회운동 차원에서의 결속을 말하는 것과 어떻게 유사하거나 다른지를 비교한다. 그리고 마지막으로 랜드 다시 읽기를 시도하는 페미니스트들의 논의 속에서 발견한 랜드를 평가한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Ayn Rand, relatively less known among political theorists in Korea, proposes the way of understanding moral philosophy of rational self-interest as the very essence of liberal individualism. In her novels and philosophical writings Rand claims that individual's selfish reasoning is the only propelling force to fulfill the reason of existence of an individual and the individual's relationship with others.
This study attempts to examine Rand's epistemology through the role of rationality in the objectivism as the basis of constructing moral society; to explain that Rand's selfish individualism can only be realized under the ideal of capitalism; to introduce Rand's criticism of the fraternal love the essence of collectivist socialism; and lastly to evaluate whether Rand's concepts and social assumptions can contribute to dialectical synthesis of what the feminists have tried to between their ideals and realities.
